Every region had their traditions.[break][break]

Since arriving in Hoenn, however, it was made clear that some of those traditions were bound to overlap. Just like the events and displays had so dearly and carefully been planned within the homeland, summertime within his new home had—much to his initial disdain—been associated with a vivid display of fireworks, among other matters. Parties. Mingling.[break][break]

He found himself at one such function, similar to the past.[break][break]

Yet compared to the past, it rang a different chord. Though the partygoers had remained mingling and ever lively behind him, he’d opted to stray from the groups of acquaintances and friends, alike, that he’d found among the rooftop gathering that was hosted. With a drink in one hand and wrinkled photograph in the other, he leaned upon the railing of another, risen platform somewhat separated from the party, ever ignorant (or maybe even oblivious, for once?) to the glimmer of fireworks bursting overhead.[break][break]

He traced the fading forms of the figures within the film before breathing a sigh and taking a drink.[break][break]

Summer enjoyed summer in Hoenn. Despite the burning heat, it was a time of celebration and fun. She found this season was one of her busiest, where she was out in the masses partying and mingling with the masses.[break][break]

Such was the case that night, as she wandered across the rooftop with a drink in hand.[break][break]

Flirtatious comments and empty promises of seeing one another again were exchanged with a woman before she broke away from the crowd, deciding to take a moment for herself. Though, the spot she decided to claim was taken.[break][break]

And her companion was noticeably ignoring the fireworks bursting above head.[break][break]

"Don't tell me you don't enjoy fireworks and summertime, Toman?" Summer teased, easing her way beside him.

The sound of an all too familiar voice met his ears before long.[break]
He breathed a soft, foreign tongued murmur under his breath, sighing as his head lulled between his shoulders.[break][break]

”I ain’t one fer ‘em or against ‘em,” he started off with a tone of minor exasperation, shutting his eyes briefly as he remained hunched over the railing he’d found himself perched against. With a careful mind and hand (lest it flutter away and become lost to the city), he began to fold the photograph between his fingers as the azure-haired woman approached. ”Fuck me if I wouldn’t do without the summer heat, though…”[break][break]

Reduced to little more than a small square of folded parchment, he settled the picture into his breast pocket before lifting his head once more. Amber hues surveyed the distant, building-creased horizon afar for a moment before he turned his head and found his eyes upon the selfsame Rocket that addressed him.[break][break]

”Why’s what I enjoy matter or not, though, eh~?” he mused on, eying her for a while longer before lifting his eyes to trail after the most recent set of fireworks that streaked the skies. ”Ain’t like ya t’care ‘bout 'lil shite like that when it comes t’ ‘lil ol’ me~.”[break][break]

”Yeah, sounds like yer well fuckin’ versed in takin’ shit off.”[break][break]

There was a bite to his words just like there always was, but compared to the norm—to the spite that so often and naturally coated his speech—it seemed to lull a fair amount. Where bitterness and venom reigned true and supreme in any other scenario, there seemed to be another tone dancing upon his tongue; amusement, though not quite of the embittered sort.[break][break]

Quite, being the key word, but the point still stood.[break][break]

He breathed a sigh of (partial) faux exasperation, humming to himself while taking a sip from his drink.[break][break]

”Lookit ye, though— tellin’ me t’fuckin’ let loose, ‘f all things,” he quipped clicking his tongue as he turned his head slightly, peering down at her from the corner of his eye. ”Finally got rid'a that stick up yer ass, eh, Corleone~?”

Summer rolled her eyes, tipping back her drink as if it was a shot. Sometimes, she couldn't stand the motherfucker. "Like you don't? I find that hard to believe."[break][break]

But she didn't know if it was the atmosphere or the drink in her system. Something about Cain was enticing, more so than usual. He was an attractive man, and she always thought that. His personality was the equivalent to a reeking can of garbage filled with feces.[break][break]

Summer sneered, though she gave a small chuckle before shrugging. "I don't know, Cain. Why don't you find out?" she challenged, reaching her hand out and slapping his backside. "Looks like yours is still in. Need some help getting it out?"[break][break]

She laughed, finding herself leaning back against the wall not but a few feet away from where he stood.

In spite of the quips he had to offer, and in spite of the displays of disdain and annoyance that seemed all too consistent with her whenever they crossed paths, a subtle musing twined alongside the slyness that took his smirk. Where her gaze may have strayed for but a moment as she tilted her head back for a drink, his own merely lingered upon her within an absentminded bout of consideration. A sharp, yet quiet huff of the basic workings of a snicker left his lips as hues of amber remained upon her.[break][break]

”Shite ain’t ‘bout me~.”[break][break]

He turned his head towards the lights above once more.[break][break]

With a bottle raised between idle fingers, he took another, calmer sip of his own beverage in comparison to the woman by him. Her words reached his ears, prompting a flash of white to tug into view beneath an ever crooked smirk— though rather than the undertones of bitterness that so often coated his lips, a touch of gaiety enveloped his guise as a proper chuckle left his lips. His tongue rested softly against his cheek as he considered her words, further savoring the lingering taste of alcohol as he began to start a response.[break][break]

A response that would never be heard, evidently enough.[break][break]

Hues of amber shifted towards her as he’d begun to open his mouth, only to narrow faintly—briefly—as her hand made contact. Quicker than initially intended, he turned towards her with furrowed brows; a look of confusion within his eyes being replaced by a subtle spark that ignited within them,, instead, before long at all could pass.[break][break]

”Brusque fuckin’ way of sendin’ an invitation, eh?” he barked back at her, a simper flashing clear upon his lips as he lowered his drink. With little mind for it at all, he left it upon the railing as he followed a pace or two after her, pocketing his hands with a leisurely step.[break][break]

Her back met the wall behind her.[break]
He leaned down towards her soon after, tilting his head with a low, humming chuckle.[break][break]

”Yer lookin’ t’bite more than yer able t’chew by sayin’ that.” His grin broadened as his tone lulled all the while. ”Y’know that, yeah~?”[break][break]
